1 General
  • The East Ward/West ES and Pershing Park/Sugar Loaf/Bellaire ES projects are off and running! Nearly two dozen members of KISD leadership kicked the Huckabee team off with an inaugural project review session for the two projects that looked that the spaces that the building will contain along with the challenges and opportunities with each existing site.
  • KISD is evaluating geotechnical proposals for the East Ward/West Ward ES and Pershing Park/Sugar Loaf/Bellaire ES projects.
2 Pershing Park/Sugar Loaf/Bellaire
  • Site survey crews are currently doing field work.
  • Huckabee design team is generating two concepts – one based on a 2 story building a one based on a 3 story building.
  • Huckabee team is evaluating drainage patterns and existing underground utilities on/around the existing property to determine the best option for managing stormwater.
3 East Ward/West Ward
  • Huckabee design team is generating site plan and floor plan concepts for a 3 story design solution.
  • Huckabee team is evaluating drainage patterns and existing underground utilities on/around the existing property to determine the best option for managing stormwater.
4 ADA/TAS Improvements (handicap accessibility)
  • Acceessology, a Registered Accessibility Specialist firm, has teams doing on site assessments of multiple campuses in the district. To date, they have the field work on 11 campuses complete.
  • Huckabee team is organizing information received from Accessology and beginning the process of generating solutions to the deficiencies identified in the assessments as well as estimating the potential cost of those solutions.
5 Safety and Security
  • The Huckabee design team is working on scope documents for all 45 existing academic campuses to verify the project details with the district.
6 East Ward ES Swing Space
  • KISD is evaluating various options that have been proposed and assessed over the past several weeks in preparation for a presentation to the Board of Trustees that will lay the options out to allow the Board to decide on the optimum direction.
7 ES 36
  • KISD is evaluating options for a potential site for another new elementary school in the district.
